In the philosophy of the Marxists, the term magnetic hegemony is the domination or the superiority of one culture over other cultures in places where the dominating culture is the majority. They tend to manipulate the values, the norms, the way that the people view things and the morals of the said region. This is done so that the norms and the culture of the said society become the widely acceptable morals and view of the entire world or region in which they are situated. People learn to obey the rules and the rules are integrated into their way of life. Their ruling becomes the widely accepted standards and the political, economic and legal system is based on the values of the dominant culture. Magnetic hegemony determines the way in which people at a particular place will live and operate. The leader of the state can choose to impose their rules and their values on the minority states. The rules in most cases are used to benefit the ruling class and to make them more powerful. They rule the minority cultures with the threats of intervention and power instead of force by the military.

The Gramscian idea of administration is for the most part used to show the social authority of the predominant classes in the generation of summed up implications, of “unconstrained” agreement to the common course of action of social relations – a procedure, notwithstanding, that is never completed in light of the fact that hegemony can never be totally completed.

“Administration is a consistent battle against a large number of resistances to ideological mastery, and any parity of strengths that it accomplishes is constantly unstable, dependably needing re-accomplishment. Administration’s “triumphs” are never long-lasting, and any general public will prove various focuses where subordinate gatherings have opposed the aggregate control that is hegemony’s point, and have withheld their agreement to the framework.

Karl Marx postulated that the economic issues, and the difference in opinions associated with the capitalist society would influence the society to form the rich ruling nations and would increase the influence of the rich people on the poor working class. The way that the society functions would be influenced by the culture and the politics of the rich people in the country. The proletarian culture is likely to increase the class consciousness and teach the historical culture of only the rich people and disregarding those of the poor ones. In order to win the position of power, they would have to have enough power and the necessary support so that they can win the war. Magnetic domination is based on the economic class and the numbers of the majority culture and the power that they have to influence the rest of the society in spite of the fact that they may not exactly be considered the norms.

Magnetic hegemony cannot be considered as the norms of the society but rather artificial values that have been imposed on the people and must be investigated to find out the roots of the people and to investigate the extent of the social class domination. The information obtained is crucial for the freedom of the people and to ensure that the people can have their own cultural practices and in a way that they can take care of the social and the economic needs of the people including the various social classes of the people who are dominated upon. In most societies, magnetic hegemony is not either monolithic or a unified system of the values Magnetic hegemony is complex and where all the cultures of the people are integrated to allow all the cultures to ensure that they can co-exist together as part of the same society in spite of their different belief systems.

Since different cultures have different purposes that each of the culture has, they will be able to make the society one and to make the society have a greater missions and vision. When a person is able to view the society, the personal common values perform a dual sense and where the person can apply the common sense to their daily life and their experiences to the values and norms of the said society. In this way, they can be considered to have the best magnetic hegemony and said to come from the perfect society. They need to be able conform to the way things are. In public, there is the coming up of limitations in the way that the people view things and how they can be able to conform that the societal norms and this ensures that every single person is able to conform to the standards of the nation.

Because of the differences in how the people view the world, they have differences in their culture. Since people are usually concerned with their own issues and with what only affects them, and what only concerns them, in the same way, they rarely think about other issues such as the economic oppression of the people and the reason as to why they are not content in the society in which they live. There are many effects of the magnetic hegemony. The way that the people view magnetic hegemony is different from one person to another and that there are many causes of the difference in perception. When people are viewed as single individuals, then the magnetic hegemony cannot be seen or viewed. However, when the society is viewed as a whole, then they are likely to see the differences in the different cultures. People are unable to see the magnetic hegemony if they live in the society as opposed to when they live together as a society. The hegemony system is recognized in an instant where there is a minority and the majority group in which the situation is always not manifested by men and women living in the same culture.

The term hegemony was made up by Antonio Gramsci when he was imprisoned and he was fascinated by how power works and how it was distributed from one community to another. He wondered how power was distributed among the communities and he discovered that power was owned by the people who want to change the system and the ones who want to change how the community works. He thought that for the people to change the system, they would have to own the means of production and administration. Gramsci observed that the youth were given factories but handed them over after some time because they did not know what to do with them and they did not how to run the factories. In the same way, he observed how the Catholic Church exercised control of the society and how they managed to make the people remain loyal to them. He postulated that in order to make the people one and to maintain a new society, then they would have to create a new consciousness and promote the said consciousness.

Consciousness constitutes the culture of the people in all the senses. There is the culture as a whole where the person concerned is the sense made by the culture and what the culture of the people means to the individual. Culture could also be taken as the norms, the values and the mores of the society in which it exists. Culture is what allows people to make the decisions that they make, the personality of the individual, it shapes the idea of the individual on what is wrong and what is right, what can be done and what cannot be done and also their opinion on what is just and what is unjust. A person may be able to take a business or a factory by storm but unless their principles are guided by the culture that further backs up the principles that they have set then they are constantly viewed as failures. If the principles are not backed up by a strong culture, then it means that the changes that have been implemented will only be successful in the short run.

The power of the notion of magnetic hegemony exists on the fact that it should be invisible. It cannot be backed up by the constitution and the military but it exists within the people. There is nothing political about it or even religious but rather a consciousness that exists to everyone in the society. It is harder to notice than the politics of the country and can often go unnoticed by foreign people who do not reside in the region. It is also very hard to resist as most people are born in the culture and thus rarely see anything wrong in it. This is as opposed to politics where rules can be made to make it more convenient to other people or as it suits the powerful in the economy. When the culture of the people become common sense for the majority of the population then it is said to be hegemonic.

However, there is no culture that can be completely hegemonic. Even when there is completely control over most of the minority groups, there will always be populations that will resist the control that they are given.  The cultures may be placed in the peasant communities and the subcultures within the cultures such as the rastafarians, and punks especially common with the youth in the said society. It is usually very hard to get through to such sub-cultures and therefore any culture that seeks to become the majority shareholder to the society would be required to make the subcultures to conform more to the majority culture. It would be harder to convince these other subcultures to invest in the new culture and to ensure that the same norms and values are practiced in the entire region.

In conclusion, it was perceived that the magnetic power is not only enough to have complete power. The majority population also had to have political and economic power so as to rule the rest of the population. Most of the minority population in most cases is left poor and destitute without any power to run their activities. The majority population usually gets all the privileges in that they get the best jobs, get large parcels of land, and even get appointed to political positions. The minority population is normally discriminated against and in most countries remain among the poorest in the land. In the same way, it is more important to note that the poor are left to look out for themselves and in most cases are treated very unjustly. This explains why the minority population is mostly involved in crime and is also among the most illiterate people. They are not allocated the same resources as the majority population and usually their issues remain unsolved for a long time. Unless these issues can be solved in an amicable manner, the issues in the society are likely to remain intact.
