Nowadays, a lot of highlights have been given in regard to adaptive leadership. Adaptive leadership focuses on the issue of leadership motivation and the aspect of adapting to new ideas to overcome current challenges in any organization. There are major approaches that I can implement as an administrator to enhance my nursing skills and to improve the quality and quantity of work in the health sector. These broad approaches will enable me to assess my strengths and weaknesses, assist me in creating a leadership plan, and help me develop new ideas that will bring positive outcomes to the medical care.

Leadership Approach

Being a nurse with a five-year experience in the medical field, I need first to comprehend the concepts of an adaptive leader to acquire that leadership. As an adaptive leader in the nursing department, I am required to take a systems perspective. I am expected to deal with the challenges that my fellow workers or patients face . These challenges can include communicating or technical problems that are mostly seen as complex and can change any time, thus affecting the working relationship.

Secondly, I will be required to assume a service-oriented approach. I will be obliged to use my nursing skills to serve the patients by diagnosing their illnesses and prescribing the right medication. Lastly, to accomplish my adaptive work, I will need to incorporate the psychotherapy outlook where I am required to adapt to new inventions of the medical sector and learn to face all challenges in a positive manner. Once I have implemented these approaches, I will be able to evaluate my strengths and weaknesses as an adaptive leader.

My Leadership: Strengths

The Enhanced Relational Engagement

One of the major aims that I have achieved as a nurse during my five-year experience is developing a relational engagement (Northouse, 2015). With the help of my leadership skills, I have been able to engage my fellow workers in decision-making, and this has led to the efficiently organized teamwork.

Achieving My Leadership Goals

I have been able to reach some of my goals as an experienced nurse whereby I can complete my duties at the appropriate time, and always be committed to my work. I have become a role model for many coworkers, since I have used my leadership skills to encourage my colleagues to work extra hard.

Moral and Ethical Standards

As an adaptive nurse, I believe it is essential to adhere to high moral and ethical standards in the healthcare organization (Northouse, 2015). I have been able to maintain my moral conduct by being responsible for my actions whether right or wrong.

My Leadership: Weaknesses

Though my leadership style has mostly been approved, I still believe there are some weaknesses that I should eliminate to become an adaptive leader in my nursing career to the full extent. The first concern for me involves the lack of technology skills because the absence of innovative skills in the health sector leads to deteriorating leadership skills (Northouse, 2015). For example, my organization uses the traditional approach to care for its patients. Another weakness entails challenges in delegating work where at times my leadership values are not always accepted or the right decisions are not approved by the staff and some patients. Lastly, the sluggish progress of implementing adaptive leadership owing to many issues in the health sector has similarly posed a significant challenge. It is apparent that various weaknesses characterize my leadership. However, with the right leadership plan, I can overcome these drawbacks.

Leadership Plan

As a nurse with a considerable experience in the home health care, I need to have an adaptive leadership plan that will enable me to improve my leadership qualities. First of all, I am willing to be more objective to my colleagues’ opinions on health matters before making my own decision, as such approach will ensure better communication and a favorable atmosphere within the team (Northouse, 2015). Furthermore, I intend to be more understanding with my patients and colleagues so that I can provide them with the necessary help. Regarding the delegation of duties, it is imperative that I remove my colleagues’ negative notions. As such, the plan should ensure that the personnel are fully involved in my work. Also, I will encourage them to share their views and ideas so that we can solve existing issues and prevent similar ones in the future.

Adaptive problems will always be experienced in the health sector. The leadership plan will enable me to identify and develop new methods of solving these problems (Northouse, 2015). Finally, to become skilled in using new technology and establish a new model of patient care, I am planning to undergo corresponding training, acquire the necessary knowledge, and set the objectives that will lead to positive changes. These core features will make the leadership plan feasible and successful in managing the weaknesses and emerging challenges.

Conclusion

To become an adaptive leader in my nursing career, I need to entirely understand the basic elements of adaptive leadership. Most importantly, I should evaluate my service orientation and take the psychotherapy perspective towards my team members. Moreover, I will learn to adapt to changes in my working environment and keep a positive attitude. Having successfully incorporated the principles of adaptive leadership, I can evaluate strengths and weaknesses in my leadership. As a result, the strategies that I use to overcome my weaknesses will help compose an effective leadership plan and promote well-coordinated teamwork.
